And on shoes by AquaticFishy And on shoes by AquaticFishy
Shoes for Jessica :iconrawressica:'s birthday, a la ~Bobsmade.

Hecka fun stuff. I still have a buncha acrylics and matte wood varnish left, so anyone else who'd like shoes just holla. 'Course, you *could* just spring for the real thing at bobsmade... but that's like 95 euro ($142).

NOTE: It's harder than it looks, FELLAS.

haha, no idea. I just play around for fun. I think it's my fanart that brings people around to the shoes once they're done with it.

what acrylics did you use? are they for fabric canvas or will any acrylic hold up?

these were just regular old acrylics (Liquitex I think) sprayed over with matte finish (to waterproof them)

As long you paint on canvas/fabric shoes (that don't have some sort of of finish or paint on them) you should be fine. You can always wipe down the surface with nail polish remover to prep it to help the acrylics stick better and remove any coating that might have been put on the shoe fabric.

I have never tried on leather. ...But I hear you need special (pricey) leather paints. I like painting on canvas shoes cause then I can use the regular paints that I have laying around.

yeah it was recently brought to my attention that leather paints work better than acrylics

Did you color the black on the rubber yourself? I'm trying to paint a pair of shoes myself but nothing seems to be sticking (I've used acrylic and spray paint).

No, the rubber came black. I am not sure what to suggest to you for painting on rubber. I've never done it.

Truely amazing shoes! I want to try and make some like these with acrylic paint but are they water proof and okay to wear in the rain??

I sprayed mine with matte wood varnish once they were finished. ...so yes! Acrylic in itself is not terribly waterproof though.

Thank you<3

As a finishing coat, to waterproof the acrylic (and also give it a more matte look)

Sealing the acrylic once I'm done, so they're totally waterproof, and so they don't look so shiny.

You used acrylics and matte wood varnish? like, matte wood varnish on top of everything? I ask because I'll might paint my own shoes, but I have no clue what equipments I'll need and how to make them last long... :( do you have any tips? :)
I really love these pics, those colours looks marvellous and those pictures are so happy and lovely

Check out =Bobsmade for some great examples and tutorials (there's a great youtube video over there).

My process:
1. Cloth/Canvas Shoes
2. White Acrylic basecoat everywhere
3. Pencil outlines
4. Sharpie/waterproof pen outlines
5. Color in w/acrylic
6. Re-do pen outlines
7. Spray matte wood varnish over all the (dried) acrylic.
